BIO
Matthew Mahon has been photographing professionally since 1999. He hails from Oakhurst, New Jersey and is now based in Austin, Texas. Matthew graduated from Rutgers University in 1996, where he study documentary photography under the tutelage of Martha Rosler and Diane Neumaier. After graduating from RUTGERS Matthew moved to Seattle and worked as a tribal rug salesman by day and a bartender by night. While showing his work in co-op galleries and coffee shops Matthew was stumbled upon by an art director at the The Evans Group that gave him his first commercial job. One year later Matthew quit the bar job, moved to Austin, Texas and never looked back.
Matthew has been awarded Gold Addy Photography 2006, Silver Addy Promotion 2006, and chosen for Communication Arts Interactive Annual 2006, Lürzer's Archive Magazine 2008. Matthew was also a 2011, 2012, 2014 Phoot Camp attendee
He is a son, a brother, an Uncle, a friend, a rancher, a lover of socks, and strides towards living a more "glamourous" lifestyle, like P.Diddy or Morrissey. He has been called “aloof”, and separately, “genius” but Ross Perot put it best when he said to Matthew “I have many important people waiting on me young man, so let's make this snappy.”
Matthew's other interests include remodeling homes, salvage shops, researching World War II, bicycle racing, and admiring his dog Buddy and his Pygmy Goat named Cheese. But his favorite activity is entertaining friends and family at Old Stick Ranch, his home in Leander, Texas.
